Highlights
- Spores, a two-way link between the sequencer and the Mycelium field. Turn it on and every step that fires drops a little chemistry into the field where that node sits on the shape, so the busier corners of a pattern grow denser patches.
- Two new step conditions, FIELD+ and FIELD-. A FIELD+ step plays only where the field has grown alive; a FIELD- step plays only where it has gone quiet. You set them from a step's right-click menu, the same place the other conditions live.
- Patterns that change as they run. A Spores pattern keeps feeding the field it reads, so FIELD steps thin out where a region saturates and come back as it decays. Stop playing for a while and the field dies down, so the next pass lands a little different.
- It stacks with the rest of Mycelium. The same field that gates the steps still drives your filter, your pan, and anything else you route the Myc sources to, so the rhythm and the timbre move together.
- Two presets built on the loop: Overgrowth, a slow blooming pattern that grows ghost notes as it runs, and Spore Clock, a driving sixteen-step groove whose offbeats drop away and surface with the field.
- A Deposit knob for how hard each step feeds the field, and a Sense knob for the level the FIELD steps compare against. Both sit on the SEQ page next to Tension.
- Presets now carry more of your patch: an imported wavetable, a loaded impulse response, a warp curve you drew, or a reordered FX rack all come back the way you saved them.
- Also fixed: the Resonance effect keeps your stereo width instead of narrowing it, a rare crash when closing the plugin window is gone, and a few effects hold steadier at high sample rates.
- Your patches, packs, and license carry over exactly as before.
Details
Spores is the feature I've wanted since Mycelium landed. Mycelium gave Laura a living field that the voices in a chord feed and read, so they colour each other with nothing routed between them. Spores hands that same field to the sequencer. When a step fires, it drops a little chemistry into the field at the node's own spot on the shape. Play a busy corner of the pattern and that corner of the field grows dense; leave a corner sparse and it stays quiet. And because it's the same field the Myc sources already read, it's bending your filter and pan at the same time it's growing under the pattern.
The other half is two new step conditions. Right-click a step and you can set it to FIELD+ or FIELD-, alongside the 1:2, FILL, and PRE conditions that were already there. FIELD+ fires only where the field is alive, FIELD- only where it's quiet. And since those steps read the same field the pattern is feeding, the two push on each other. A region saturates and its FIELD- steps fall silent. The culture decays and they come back. Ghost notes surface where the groove has grown. Stop playing and the field thins out, so the next pass sounds a little different. Two presets ship on it, Overgrowth and Spore Clock, so you can hear the loop before you build a patch. A Deposit knob and a Sense knob, next to Tension on the SEQ page, are the whole control surface.
Now the fixes. The big one for anyone who saves their own patches: presets now carry the things they used to leave behind, so an imported wavetable, a loaded impulse response, a warp curve you drew, or a reordered FX rack all come back exactly as you saved them. The Resonance effect used to narrow your stereo image whenever it sat in the chain; it keeps the width now. A rare crash when you closed the plugin window with an update check still running is fixed. A few effects that leaned on a fixed internal setting now hold steady across sample rates, and a retriggered triangle LFO now starts from its centre and rises, the way the sine already did, instead of snapping to the top. Nothing about your saved patches, packs, or license changes.
